New Balance to Introduce Revolutionary Briefs and Shorts For Men

February 1, 2000

BOSTON, February 1, 2000 - ActivArc™ by New Balance marks a true breakthrough in support and never-before-experienced comfort. By combining moisture-wicking Coolmax ™ Lycra® with patented ActivArc™ technology, a support suspension system, NB has created the most innovative brief, compression, work-out, and running shorts. These "Made in the USA" products will be hitting specialty and sporting goods stores (for men) in March 2000.

Unlike the jock strap, ActivArc™ technology does not have constricting straps. Instead, the supporter has a flat-seam stitched Coolmax™ Lycra® insert. The result -an abrasion-free, breathable, wicking garment that provides maximum comfort, control, and support for all men. This design is so comfortable that Global Apparel Operations Manager Nick Richino said, "Many men who have tested ActivArc™ technology chose to wear the briefs even when they were not exercising." He also added that enthusiasm for this product is extraordinary.

In addition to the ActivArc™ brief, there are three fabrications of the ActivArc™ compression short; each one designed with a specific consumer in mind.
-- Engineered for the performance athlete, the Supplex Lycra® short maximizes breathability, moisture management, and durability.
-- The Polycotton Lycra® short is a true "fitness" garment. A beefier fabric with a greater absorption rate than Supplex, this short is ideal for gym or other cardiovascular workouts.
-- The Nylon Lycra® short is ideal for the sport athlete who seeks a smooth fabric that can easily be worn under a pair of shorts or pants as a base layer of support.

ActivArc™ running and workouts shorts are also available. Specifically designed for the best support, both are constructed of Supplex Nylon with the Coolmax ActivArc™ liner, which allows for extensive movement without chafing and binding.

All together there are six garments in the ActivArc™ by New Balance collection, and New Balance is the only company with patented ActivArc™ technology. With plans to take running shorts to the next level, Judson Van Cor, Associate Product Manager, said, "With such a great combination of fabrics and silhouettes, we anticipate that the ActivArc™ collection will further elevate New Balance in the running and athletic apparel industry."
