March 23, 2000
March 23, 2000 - A strong commitment to performance and fit remains the focus for New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc., who will introduce three new running styles and three new racing models for September/October 2000. With a unique Suspension System™ (comprised of various components to address specific needs), as well as extensive width-sizing, New Balance is able to accommodate the needs of all runners who demand performance footwear that fits and performs on an elite level.
An update to the 1000, the M/W1020 is a neutral cushioning shoe. It complements the 1000 training Series, which includes the 1120 motion control and 1220 stability shoe. The 1020 is unique in that it is the first in-line training shoe to utilize/implement N-ergy™ technology. First introduced in the RC1 racing comp, the features and benefits of the N-ergy™ system made it a natural choice to be carried over into the training category. The cartridge made of Dupont® Hytrel™ was engineered structurally and strategically placed to maximize rearfoot cushioning upon impact. The material properties of Hytrel™ are an important/added characteristic of N-ergy™ technology due to its mechanical and chemical resistance to compression set/deformation and the elements. The design, material, and placement of the cartridge allow for a lasting responsive ride.
The 1020 also features ABZORB® cushioning in the forefoot, Stability Web® in the midfoot, and a flexible blown rubber forefoot outsole. With a comprehensive technology package, a progressively styled upper, and three width options for both men and women, the highly responsive 1020 is a perfect addition to the 1000 Series.
Another new style for late Fall 2000 is the M/W991, an update to the heritage 990 model. Due to the popularity of the fit and ride of its predecessor, the midsole/outsole unit of the 991 remains relatively unchanged except for a few enhancements. The forefoot now has a full bed of ABZORB®, a greater exposure of ABZORB® in the heel, and a more contemporary upper design. With ENCAP® in the heel and a blown rubber outsole, the highly cushioned 991 is recommended for mild to severe overpronators who require cushioning and stability.
The M/W829 continues the tradition of the 828 in providing a lightweight, cushioned trainer for mild to under-pronators. The combination of a blown and solid rubber outsole provides cushioning and durability, while an improved Stability Web® provides torsional control. A fast, seamless upper design provides a stylish yet comfortable and supportive fit. The new 829 midsole/outsole design, combined with an aggressively styled upper, is perfect for the runner who is looking for a fast, responsive lightweight training shoe. "The 829 has already grabbed the attention of not only elite running dealers, but broader-based accounts including national sporting good chains, as well," said Stuart Babb, Running Product Manager.
On the racing side, New Balance will update its distance-specific 300 Series spikes in October with the introduction of the LDS, MDS and SDS330. While the nylon plate unit remains the same (as in 300 series), the elimination of unnecessary overlays with the incorporation of lighter technical materials has not only improved the fit, but has reduced the overall weight of the spikes as well. This enhancement/update to the spike series re-affirms New Balance's commitment to track and field athletes.
