New Balance & Dunham Support Habitat for Humanity

September 1, 2000

September 1, 2000 - Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has been dedicated to building decent affordable homes in partnership with people in economic need. So far, more than 90,000 homes have been constructed worldwide. Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses and works side-by-side with the homeowner (partner) families. This program is unique because the families who will live in them, help build the house. That is, in addition to a low down payment and monthly mortgage payments, each partner invests 300 hours of labor - sweat equity - into building their own home, as well as the homes of others.

New Balance and Dunham Bootmakers are pleased to join Habitat for Humanity's effort to provide equal opportunity housing, by supporting a Habitat house at the Regent Street development in Roxbury, Mass. (a Boston neighborhood). In addition to financial support, New Balance and Dunham are also providing some of its own sweat equity. On September 16th, 25 New Balance/Dunham associates from Boston and Lawrence participated in the Corporate Build-A-Thon Day, which was broadcast live on local radio station Mix 98.5. On October 28th, 25 more New Balance/Dunham associates will volunteer their time at the second Build-A-Thon Day, broadcast live on local radio station WBCN-FM. New Balance and Dunham representatives will also participate in the home's dedication later this fall.
