New Balance Performance Running Expands with New Styles and Colors for Spring 2003

October 30, 2002

BOSTON, October 30, 2002 - For Spring 2003, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. will add to its line of high performance running footwear with new models that incorporate the company's innovative technologies and new distinctive designs.

"For Spring 2003 our primary driving goal will continue to be providing real runners with highly functional and technical products," says Louis Joseph, Associate Product Manager, Running at New Balance.  "As our Running line continues to grow and diversify, we hope to utilize innovative technologies and designs to continue to provide the best in performance running products."

The M/W855 will update the 854 in the Stability/Motion Control segment for January 2003.  This high mileage trainer features the innovative Abzorb SBS® cushioning technology in the heel and forefoot for maximum shock absorption, and the Rollbar® technology with a dual density medial post to accommodate the moderate to severe overpronator.  With two-tone mesh, more aggressive color-blocking, medial and lateral straps for enhanced midfoot support, and 360? reflectivity, the 855 is both a highly technical and functional trainer.  A soft collar/tongue lining offers support and cushioning for the heel, while the synthetic/mesh upper provides lightweight comfort and flexibility.

For January 2003, the M/W716 will update the 715 in the Supportive Cushioning segment, with two color-ways available for each gender.  This versatile trainer features a dual density medial post and Abzorb® cushioning in the heel and forefoot which combine to create increased shock absorption and comfort for the mild to moderate overpronator.  The Stability Web® offers lightweight torsional support, while the synthetic/mesh upper provides breathability.  With aggressive styling, a two-tone breathable mesh, extensive reflectivity for night running, and soft, synthetic support lines for increased stability, the 716 was designed to appeal to a broad base of runners.

A brand-new Trail Running shoe, the M/W870 will debut in March 2003.  This lightweight style features Abzorb® cushioning in the heel and forefoot for maximum shock absorption and an additional Abzorb® insert for enhanced comfort and cushioning.  Built for the off-road enthusiast the Tru-Trak®, multi-directional lug configuration provides  exceptional traction and ground contact, while the Stability Web® offers additional lightweight midfoot support.  With more open mesh, fewer synthetic overlays, and an "N-lock" support feature which utilizes the "N" logo as a functional element of the shoe, the 870 features a variety of innovative and distinctive designs.

Also in the Trail Running category, three models will receive new color-ways for Spring 2003.  The all terrain M/W806, a rugged on/off road technical trainer, and the entry-level all-terrain M/W602, will have new color-ways debut for January 2003.  In March 2003, the all terrain M/W705 will get a new color-way.

As with all New Balance in-line styles, all running shoes will be available in multiple widths and sizes.
