October 30, 2002

BOSTON, October 30, 2002 - For Spring 2003, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. will continue to expand its line of adventure sports footwear with a new model that seeks to appeal to the true outdoor enthusiast.

"For 2003 our primary goal will be to provide the young, risk-taking outdoor enthusiast with high performance, technical products," says Joann Sacca, Associate Product Manager, Adventure at New Balance.  "The category was redefined in September 2002 to meet the needs of a growing population of consumers who thrive on outdoor, extreme activities such as mountain biking, scrambling, and kayaking."

The all-new MA/WA695 will debut in the Discovery segment for February 2003 with two color-ways available for each gender.  The 695 features Abzorb® cushioning in the heel and forefoot for maximum shock absorption, a Stability Web® for lightweight torsional stability, and a C-Cap® midsole for increased comfort and support.  With draining ports and channels that move water away and a vented system on the medial and lateral sides, this aggressively designed unique closure shoe is slip-resistant, built to go from land to water - especially good for wet environment activities like kayaking and paddling.

Also in the Discovery segment MA/WA700, which originally debuted in September 2002, will receive new a color-way for Spring 2003.  This aggressive multi-activity shoe, designed to meet the performance needs of the outdoor sports enthusiast, will come in a green color-way for women and a yellow color-way for men.
