New Balance Cross-Training Maintains Focus with Performance-Driven Footwear for Spring 2003

October 30, 2002

BOSTON, October 30, 2002 - New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. looks to solidify its #2 position in the Cross-Training category with two new additions and a new color-way for Spring 2003.

In the Workout segment, the MX/WX663 updates the highly successful 662 for February 2003.  With exposed Abzorb  cushioning in the heel and forefoot for maximum shock absorption, a Stability Web  for lightweight midfoot support and a C-Cap  midsole for flexibility, this running profile trainer is designed for the athlete working out in the gym who participates in various cardio activities.  The 663 also offers expanded mesh on the upper for a more breathable profile.  The updated design utilizes a minimal amount of overlays for increased flexibility and sleeker cosmetics.  The 663 will come in two color-ways per gender for February.  The white-based women's shoe will once again be part of the Lace Up for the Cure™ Pink Ribbon collection.

"After having so much success in 2002 with the 662, we are looking for the same type of positive response to the introduction of the 663.  New Balance Cross-Training is poised for another year of sales growth with our full line of high-performance technical shoes for real athletes," says Jeff Cotter, Assistant Product Manager, Cross-Training, at New Balance.

The WF746 will update the 745 in January 2003 as a woman's only Fitness trainer in the Cushioning segment.  This mid cut, lightweight fitness shoe is designed for fitness activities such as aerobics, kickboxing, and step, and like the 745 it features exposed Abzorb® cushioning in the heel and forefoot for maximum shock absorption, a C-Cap® midsole for cushioning and flexibility, and a solid rubber outsole for long-wearing durability.  The synthetic/mesh upper offers lightweight comfort and breathability while the shoe's mid-cut design provides ankle support.  With stretch Lycra in the eyerow and fewer overlays, the 746 offers clean, youthful, more aggressive cosmetics.

The MX1005 will receive a new color-way for Spring 2003.  This cardio running profile cross-trainer with Abzorb SBS® cushioning and a Stability Web® to take you from the gym to a five-mile run, will also be offered in a navy with yellow accents for February.

As with all New Balance in-line styles, cross-training shoes are available in multiple widths and sizes.
