September 30, 2005

NEW YORK, September 30, 2005 -- Dr. Norb Sander, President of the Armory Foundation, Ed Bowes, Meet Director and Paul Heffernan, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at New Balance announced that New Balance will be the Title Sponsor of this year's Manhattan High School X-C Invitational on October 8, 2005 at Van Cortlandt Park.

"The Armory is committed to the development of track and field and cross country especially at the high school level," said Sander. "Partnering with New Balance will bring this great Manhattan meet to a new and exciting level."

"We remain the biggest, and in our estimation, the best one-day high school distance race in the US, with last year welcoming more than 11,200 cross country runners from coast to coast," said Ed Bowes, Founder and Meet Director.  "This year's New Balance sponsorship will help to greatly improve our event's presentation, timing, awards and hospitality."

New Balance's Paul Heffernan said "We are proud to be part of an event that has such a long-standing tradition of showcasing the sport of high school cross country and brings together top athletes from schools across America."

The Armory Foundation has signed a multi-year agreement with Ed Bowes to present and market the meet.  The Manhattan Invitational is currently in its 33rd year.  Other event sponsors are the New York Road Runners Club, the US Marine Corps, Super Runners Shop and the NYC Parks Department.
