BOSTON, August 16, 2006 – Runner's World magazine has named the New Balance 872 trail running shoe an "Editor's Choice" award winner in its October 2006 Trail Shoe Guide.
"Recommended for average-weight runners with normal to high arches who run on both the road and a variety of trail surfaces," said the Runner's World editors.
The 872 is designed with innovative New Balance technology including the lightweight Stability Web® system, Abzorb® cushioning in the heel and forefoot, a Rock Stop™ plate that provides protection while minimizing pressure, and a gusseted tongue that keeps debris out of the shoe for a comfortable ride. The 872 also features Toe Protect™ technology in the upper to shield toes from impact with rocks and roots, and a lightweight Acteva™ midsole that resists compression.
This combination of New Balance technology provides runners with the best balance of comfort, stability, durability, and cushioning possible. As one tester commented, "The toe box was very comfortable, and the shoe fit great."
The 872 also features N-Lock®, an integrated lacing and webbing system that provides optimal fit, support, and security. Runner's World acknowledged the benefits of this design, "The updated 872 sports a well-designed new webbing system that connects the eyestays to the midsole all along the perimeter of the shoe, from heel to the forefoot. This innovative design gives runners more ways to customize the fit." Runner's World editors also recognized and noted the 872's well-balanced combination of cushioning and stability, "Our Shoe Lab tests found the 872 to be well cushioned yet stiff in the forefoot, giving runners better control on uneven terrain." The Sure-Lace™ no-slip lace design ensures shoes stay tied and as with all in-line New Balance shoes, the 872 is available in multiple widths and sizes.
"The entire team at New Balance is extremely proud of this recognition from Runner's World," says Bryan Gothie, product manager, trail running at New Balance. "We strive to engineer innovative, comfortable, high performance products that suit the needs of runners and are thrilled the 872 was recognized for this distinction."
