Boston, Massachusetts - Runner’s World magazine has named the New Balance 902 lightweight running shoe an "Editor’s Choice" award winner in its March 2007 Shoe Guide. "We recommend the shoe for lightweight runners with normal arches looking for a training or racing shoe," said the Runner’s World editors.
The 902 is designed with innovative New Balance technology including the lightweight Stability Web® system, a combination of Abzorb® and Abzorb® SBS in the heel and forefoot and a full length Abzorb® strobel board. The midsole is composed of Acteva™ Ultra Light, a premium material that is 32 percent lighter than standard foam.
This combination of New Balance technology provides runners with the best balance of comfort, stability, durability, and lightweight cushioning possible. As one Runner's World tester commented, "The lightest training shoe I’ve ever tried, yet it still had plenty of support."
The updated 902 also features New Balance’s N-Lock® integrated lacing and webbing system which ensures optimal fit, support and security and the TS2® support system for pronation control. The 902 is engineered on a new last, the benefits of which Runner's World acknowledged in the review, "This excellent update is built on a new last that sports a snug heel, a nicely wrapped arch area, and ample room in the forefoot."
Runner's World editors also recognized the 902’s unique balance of flexible support, "The shoe supports the foot well, but isn’t too firm. In fact, our lab test found it to be the second-softest shoe in this guide." The 902 is equipped with a Lightning Dry™ collar for moisture management, a Phantom liner™ to reduce abrasion and discomfort and as with all in-line New Balance shoes, the 902 is available in multiple widths and sizes.
"Our primary driving goal is to always provide runners with the best fitting, most innovative, high performance products," says Eric Vassall, product manager, running at New Balance. "We are extremely proud to have Runner's World® recognize the hard work and diligent efforts of our NBx team."
The New Balance NBx initiative represents a refocused commitment to dedicated runners. As part of this initiative, a select division within New Balance has been dedicated to concentrate solely on the company’s elite running business. The initiative will include print advertising, online elements, outdoor (guerilla advertising), event sponsorships, and an in-store component. A collection of running footwear and apparel products will also be branded NBx.
