Brian Honan 5K Road Race Presented by New Balance To Be Held September 23

Event to Benefit Local Charities and Scholarships

September 18, 2007

Boston, MA - Runners from around the Commonwealth will join family and friends of the late Boston City Councilor Brian Honan for the Brian J. Honan 5K Road Race presented by New Balance on Sunday, September 23th at noon. Funds raised from the event will benefit scholarship funds for the Allston Board of Trade and the Brighton Board of Trade. The race also benefits the Brian J. Honan Charitable Fund which fosters local and national programs that support education, recreation, housing and healthcare.

Brian J. Honan served the Allston Brighton community for more than seven years as District City Councilor and for his whole life as an advocate for Allston Brighton and the people of the City of Boston. He lived a life filled with purpose and spirit which transformed ideas into action. Brian’s vocation in serving the people of Boston — seniors, young people, community based workers and educators’ left an unparalleled legacy.

Covering just over 3 miles of Allston-Brighton, the family-friendly run/walk will welcome everyone from competitive runners to friends of the beloved councilor to celebrate his life and work, and to continue building his legacy. The race begins at The Kells at 161 Brighton Avenue (near the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Brighton Avenue) at noon and everyone is encouraged to return to the host restaurant and pub just as the annual Allston-Brighton parade kicks off from Packard’s Corner in Allston.

Participants in the USA Track and Field sanctioned event will enjoy a host of world-class race amenities, including a pre-race stretching tent, a pace car, post-race refreshments provided by The Kell’s, and free long-sleeve race t-shirts for the first 1000 race entrants. Race medals will be provided to the first three finishers in each category with the first place prizes furnished by New Balance.

Those wishing to participate in the Brian J. Honan 5K Road Race may register at www.brianhonan.org, call Richard Grealish at 617-549-7503 or register on race day beginning at 9:30am at The Kell's.
