Norine's Story:

January 17, 2008 marks my eighth year of being a cancer-fighting champion. I don’t like to be called a cancer survivor because I am a multi-sport athlete. I fought my breast cancer like a prize fighter. Now in 2008, after having a double mastectomy on January 17, 2001, I am entering my ninth year in the Vegas Valley Men's Baseball League as both a player and a coach for the Las Vegas Sandvipers men’s baseball team. That's right. I’m a female athlete playing in a man's sport; two of them to be exact. This year I am also playing professional football in the IWFL league for the Las Vegas Showgirlz women's tackle football team. Not bad for beating cancer in the ultimate game of life, and not bad either for being a 50-year-old woman. My goal is to be an ambassador for breast cancer awareness in Major League Baseball and to someday break the gender line at that level of play. I can do it. Everyone here in Las Vegas who knows me knows I can do it... and so can you. Whatever you dare to dream in spite of having breast cancer, dream it and then make it happen, because I know you can do it, too!
