If you haven't heard of Emma Coburn, you will soon. In 2014 she recorded the fastest steeplechase time ever by an American, and she's about to take over the running world. If you're not familiar with the steeplechase, it's 7.5 times around a track, with 28 barriers and seven water jumps mixed in. It's the original obstacle race – with far more torture.
In 2012, at age 21, Emma represented the US in the Olympics. And that was just the beginning, which is scary. Because she keeps getting better. Her relentless desire to improve led to her setting four personal records in 2014. In fact, her 9:11.42 in Glasgow set the American record.
How does she keep raising the bar? In her words, "If I do the exact same training, exact same workouts, exact same diet, everything, as a year ago, I won't improve. And in fact I might get slower. So every year, every season, you have to sit down and say, 'How can I get better?' And make those changes."SHOP NB RUNNING
Milos Raonic is one of the world's fastest-rising tennis stars. In just a few years, he's rocketed from the 156th ranked player in the world to as high as No.4 earlier this spring. Raonic's surge has been built on the power of his devastating serve, which is regularly clocked at over 145 mph. In fact, Milos currently holds the record for the 4th-fastest serve ever recorded, at 155.3 mph.
But Raonic isn't just about power. He's evolved into a strategic player with multiple strengths. Raonic's service variety, his accuracy and his deception keep his opponents off balance. Milos is more than obsessive about improving himself in every facet of the game, and he is relentlessly driven to become the No.1 player in the world. The race that made him a World Champion: 54:38 swim, a 4:20:46 bike and a 2:54:36 marathon. Kienle had placed in the top 5 and the top 3 at Kona in the past. But in his mind, he knew he could win it. He could feel it. But in 2014, he was 4 minutes behind coming out of the water. No one has ever won at Kona after losing that much time in the swim. But stats are made to be broken.
