JIMMIE LOU'S STORY - Some years ago, I was invited to attend a tea at the Governor's Mansion for breast cancer survivors. This was in the first years of the Komen Race for the Cure. Little did I know that February 5, 2009, during my annual mammogram, I too would be stricken with breast cancer. There were more mammograms, biopsies, and tests. Then, I was told I would need a breast surgeon. After a lumpectomy to remove the cancer from my breast, they discovered one of the lymph nodes they removed, also was cancerous. I am completing my 6 1/2 weeks of daily radiation treatments, and to date, I will not have to have chemotherapy. I am honored to be the honorary chair for the 2009 Komen Race to let other women know that with annual mammograms and early detection...THE RACE TO CURE BREAST CANCER IS OURS TO WIN.
