JOAN'S STORY - Diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2007, Joan has been an active participant and captain of the West Gate Elementary School Team in the Race for the Cure for at least 12 years. Thanks to Joan's persistence and enthusiasm, West Gate has won the award for Largest Elementary School 11 times during that span, an impressive accomplishment considering that West Gate is far from an affluent community.
