KATIE'S STORY - Katie Clark is a breast cancer survivor, team captain and fundraiser. In Katie's words:
When we arrived at Comerica Park, I was speechless; I didn't know where to start. I couldn't believe all the people and it was only 7:30! A woman came up to me and said, "I looked like you last year." I looked at her and she had a beautiful hairstyle that was shoulder length. She said, "I have had five haircuts since then. You look great." My hair had just started to grow back and that was the nicest thing I ever heard.
When the walk was over, though tired and hot, I didn't want it to end. The positive feeling and high energy were incredible. The walk gave me strength and confirmed that I fought this and I am going to survive.
It was the strength from the walk that got me through the events that were about to happen. On that evening, my father passed away. Though it was a time of sorrow, I look back on that day and feel a sense of strength and inspiration.
I don't know why I got breast cancer. There is no family history. My genetic testing came back negative. But without it, I would have never experienced this amazing event.
