  • Hi Kelly, You mentioned the minimus trail shoe in 2E but is there any chance of them releasing a 4E as well?

  • New Balance PR People…
    Hello:

This is to inquire if New Balance would have any (last-minute) interest in providing a speaker for a quarterly gathering of endurance athletes held in Salem, Ma. The upcoming meeting date is Tuesday, April 12.

This is a relatively new series of events dubbed “YESS” for the Y Endurance Sports Series. It is aimed at higher performance, multi sport athletes. Hence the audience has included Iron Man triathletes, century endurance runners, and accomplished adventure racers as well as a good mix of plain old marathoners and shorter distance triathletes, etc.

The first two speakers were Chris Tryanos, the medical director of the Boston Marathon, on race medicine: http://www.handstandconcepts.com/1012flier.pdf; and

a tag team done by Antarctic guide Nick Lewis and exercise physiologist Chris Dunn (who is also president of Acidotic Racing) on cold weather training: http://www.handstandconcepts.com/111singlepageflier.pdf.

    Their personal websites are:
    Chris T: http://www.racemedicine.com.
    Nick L: http://www.polesapart.org/who_we_are.html
    Chris D: http://hstrial-cdunn9.homestead.com/.
You can see that these are serious contributors to the world of endurance sports.

We are in a slight jam now in that our April 12 speaker, legendary adventure racer Robert Nagle, came up with a professional conflict and got bumped back to the summer YESS event. So we are scrambling for someone with some words on a topic of interest to endurance racers. Then, what do I receive on my Facebook page but a link to the YouTube video of the introduction of your new New Balance “Minimus” product featuring Anton Krupika.

I cannot imagine that Anton himself would be available to come to Salem on 4/12 for a dinner and a 7:00 pm speaking engagement. But I would like to ask directly if you have anyone based in Boston who has some product expertise on the Minimus and the biomechanics behind its design. (Being a longstanding Vibram barefoot runner I understand that this type of footwear can stimulate wonderful discussions.) So we would like to invite whomever you might have for a presentation on running biomechanics and new footwear design trends as seen by New Balance. (There might be a few guys present who are involved with other running shoe companies, but all the better for a good discussion.)

So might someone please get in touch with me about this possibility so I can answer any questions and/or try to convince you of the PR benefits of the appearance?

Personally, having lived in the Boston area for a long time, I have been a New Balance customer for years. I also worked for a while with Bob Weiss who was the New Balance PR firm in Boston way back when. And I was the first ever outside promo guy for the Brine line of soccer and lacrosse products that you now operate. So I have a little fondness and loyalty to your brands. But it was the sincere, raw athleticism of the Minimus video clip that made me think to make this request. As a coach and a marketing guy with lots of years of involvement in clinics, promo events, and publicity seeking, I can promise you that we can make this involvement worth its effort if you can come up with somebody to talk in front of this group on your running products.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. And please refer it on within your organization to whomever might be able to respond.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Kelly, I was looking at the Minimus thread and noticed that you indicated that there might be some chance of some testing of the minimus shoes in wide widths, I've got some newly discovered ITB issues that are causing lateral pain in my knee and I would love to try some minimalist shoes but none are offered in wides. I would love to be able to test the new minimus in a wide width and would be happy to help out in any research aspect necessary. Any chance that might be an option? Thanks!

  • Hi Kelly. I am considering buying a pair of the TrueBalance 850. I have plantar facsittis in both feet which cause a great deal of pain when walking. Have you had any feedback concerning this or similar problems?

  • Hi Kelly,
The retailer where I was told that these shoes are for running and that I wouldn’t get the effect they promise is ****’s Sporting Goods at Fiesta Mall, Mesa, AZ 85202. Thank you for responding to my question.
    Have a Great day!

@Sofia - Would you mind sending me a message on my profile (http://www.newbalance.com/live/RunKellyRun/#/messages) to let me know at which retailer you had this experience? The information they gave you is incorrect, and we'd like to make sure they have the right info on these shoes. These shoes are not designed for running, they are designed for walking, so they would absolutely fit your needs

  • Kelly, hey I wound up testing the minimus which was cool, but I am still not a believer. I have been running in 810 and 811 for years. I just received a pair of 813's in the my old size and they are huge. I am already fed up with trying to switch to the 909's and that was a waste of money. Now I am really fed up. I can pro deal shoes from the north face through my work. I am ready to switch! My impression is that since NB took their AT line to china, the shoes are crap. Suggestions!
