"Continuing to Stay Positive" Survivor: Kim N
By: New Balance
Years as a survivor Six years.
Kim's Story Being a breast cancer survivor is a blessing. When I was first diagnosed, I was not afraid, but conflicted. There was no one to turn to, and there was no clear explanation as to why this happened. I ate right, I exercised, I never smoked and there is no family history. I am now not only a survivor, I am still fighting tumors, and additional surgeries, but I have made a commitment to help guide other women who may be in the same predicament that I was in. I don't want any women to ever be in my shoes, but have a smooth survival journey.
How are you involved in the fight throughout the year? I am involved in the fight all year by encouraging women to take mammograms. I am a patient advocate for newly-diagnosed women who need direction and encouragement. I became the advisor for a local high school’s breast cancer awareness club, and one of the goals we set was to have every sports team commit to a pink game throughout the school year. I try to lead by example by keeping a healthy lifestyle and continuing to stay positive in this continuing journey!
