Komen MA's Ronni Cohen-Boyar: Survivor and Inspiration
By: New Balance
As we celebrate October in support of breast cancer awareness, we had the pleasure of welcoming Komen MA's Executive Director and breast cancer survivor, Ronni Cohen-Boyar to New Balance HQ today. Ronni took time to speak with guests about her courageous story and the importance of driving breast cancer awareness.
"People think of breast cancer as an older woman's disease" when low and behold it is something that can affect anyone (male or female, young or old). Ronni discussed her heroic story of going through breast cancer while raising her kids as a single mother; and Susan G. Komen was there every step of the way providing meal programs, community support, ground-breaking research, education and so much more.
New Balance is proud of its longstanding partnership with Susan G. Komen, going on 25 years, but the fight doesn't stop in October. Promoting awareness of breast cancer is critical and it's something we at New Balance are committed to supporting all year long through our Lace Up 365 Program: Overview
We leave you with 4 important takeaways from our friend Ronni:
- Learn what's normal for you. Don't be afraid to examine yourself.
- Get records of your family history to help educate yourself.
- Get screened as appropriate for you. Talk to your healthcare provider and be your own advocate.
- Follow Up! Many people get checked but their fears get in the way of following up.
Let's make a cure happen.
