"Keep Moving Forward!" Survivor: Barb M.
By: New Balance
Years As a Survivor: "Two years"
Barb's Story: "Three years ago I found a strange lump near my left armpit - it turned out to be stage 3 breast cancer, and an aggressive form of breast cancer at that. Eight chemo treatments, 26 rounds of radiation, a bilateral mastectomy, and five surgeries later I am a survivor. I am 48 years old, I completed the 3-Day Walk in 2012 to celebrate the end of treatment, and I took up running. I ran a 10-mile race in May and a half marathon in September. I want to send the message to my friends and family - most importantly my 11-year-old daughter - that you must KEEP MOVING FORWARD! Don't look back. Don't let anything beat you - stay in front of it and show any challenge that you CAN and WILL overcome! I look forward to a full life of new experiences...if this detour taught me anything it's simply that I control HOW I react and embrace life. It's all good!"
How are you involved in the fight throughout the year? "My greatest contribution is to be a positive example for others - it's really all about positive attitude and how that will affect outcomes for the best. I was a crew captain for the SGK 3-Day Walk in Philadelphia and I try to be a positive role model for others."
