Promising, but perhaps the worst shoe I've ever bought

"I was so excited to try this shoe - it's a great looking boat shoe that provides support similar to a walking/running shoe. Plus, it's water resistant - water rolls right off of the shoe. Unfortunately, despite breaking in the shoe around the house for a week, the back of the left shoe caused my ankle to bleed after walking one mile in it my first night out with it (despite wearing a sock, I'll add!). I've tried everything I can think of: forcefully bending the heel to loosen it up, sticking a cotton pad on the tongue of the shoe to make my foot snug, tightening the laces, wearing the shoe loose - nothing stopped it from rubbing against my left heel. I've never had this problem before with any shoe in my life. If cutting into my heel was the only problem, I'd give it two stars, but the seaming between the toe box and the side of the shoe on the right shoe started separating after only my fourth or fifth time wearing it out. I'm pretty gentle with my shoes (especially since I couldn't walk far in them without my heel bleeding), so that was the final straw that led me to write this review. I've worn New Balance shoes for years and never had a bad experience with them prior to this. I also want to say that I accidentally ordered these shoes in a size too big, and dealing with customer service to exchange them was a pleasure. They were top notch - unfortunately this shoe is not."
