"This shoes is a very comfortable shoe with great cushioning. The hardest part for me was getting used to running in these heavy shoes after running in the 1080v5's. There is a big difference in the weight. I also have flat feet so I had to order a 2E shoe that I did not have to do in the 1080V5's that fit my flat feet perfectly with a D width. The length was fine, just a 1/2 size smaller than my normal size. After you adjust to the weight you will love the comfort this shoe provides."

    Way more narrow than V5

    - DC area

"I've worn the last 4 versions of the 1080. This is a completely different shoe. I like it so far, but long-time New Balance customers should be aware of the differences. Context: I average 10-11 miles a week (3-4 miles 3x a week). I've always (20+ yrs) worn B or narrow width, size 11-11.5 depending on the last. This shoe runs very narrow. I have the regular medium width, size 11 and it fits perfectly. I really like the low rise of the sole and the cushioning. The only complaint I have is the seam where the material covering the front of the show joins the the thicker part of the show on the outside (near the outer ball of the foot) is poorly done and creates a friction point. I've minimized this with how I wear my socks and tighten the lacing, but it could be a problem for those running greater distances or longer times."

"This is a great shoe but with training for marathons I felt as if the shoe broke down quick (200-250 miles). I have had other shoes last close to 400 miles before they were replaced. Also like most NB shoes they run narrow."

"I have owned these for about 6 months now. I had completed a few 10k's and the last RunDisney event. Although this ina a great running shoe for the price, my feet were starting to ache around mile 9 in the mid sole area. I strictly use these for smaller runs."

"My son in law ,who is into both running and fitness recommended the 880v6,which he swears by for comfort and long lasting, I tried these and after only a few months ,My 70 year old feet feel pain free! My 1080 feel like they are going to be great. also."

    not a great fit

    - Ohio

"Its seems like the 850 foam fit more comfortable but the toe box was to tight and i got a hole were my little toe was. these are ok but I do not like the tongue was attached and not free moving so I have trouble having them loose enough to get my foot in so it wont catch my sock and make it tight around my toes."

"New Balancer 1080's used to be my favorite running shoe, with an occasional pair of 880's if funds were low. Then an update with a narrower toe box changed all that and I moved on to other brands. Reading reviews of the newest 1080 convinced me to risk my money and give them another try. These shoes are what "smooth transition from heel strike to toe off" is all about. The fit of the EE width is perfect for me and the shoe is nothing but cushioned comfort on the road. New Balance is back on track, at least as for as the 1080 is concerned. I can't comment on durability yet, but I am hopeful that I will not be disappointed."

    Most comfortable shoes ever

    - Florida

"Just bought a pair of these at my local running store. I had been buying size 11 in the New Balance lifestyle type shoes, but they were too small to workout in and my toes were hitting the end of the toe box. My SA had me sized up in no time and let me know the 1080s run a bit small. After settling on a 12 as the right size, I tried a number of models (Vongo, 980, even some other brands), but kept coming back to the 1080. Super lightweight, ample room in the toe box, good support and comfortable like walking on clouds. Couldn't be happier."

    Comfortable but lining wearing out

"This is my second pair of 1080's. They are very comfortable and well designed. The only problem is that the material used to connect the inside of the shoe to the outside is too thin. As a result, a rather large hole has developed for no apparent reason on the inside edge of the shoe just below my ankle. I have never had a shoe wear here before, so have to believe it is the material used. Eventually, the entire lining (inside filler coming out) will become exposed, while the rest of the shoe hardly shoes any wear. I am a little surprised in NB having a design flaw like this."

"The new 1080 with the new foam is a disaster. There is less support to the forefoot since you moved the shoelaces up and all we have is the mesh. Also, the heel feels like only a half heel and very unstable. Please bring back the old 1080 as an option."

"From an Adidas convert, the have lost me to New Balance. This is the most impressive, comfortable shoe I have ever put on my feet. It took 2 days to break in and seemed a little clunky at first. But that ended. So I was moving with my three-time a week two mile walk and happened to flip them over and saw they were flattened on the toe-box near my pinkie toe and on my heel. Flat like a pancake in two places. I went to the NB store and talked to my friend Shay, who is amazing, by the way, and she says I am "Supernating" and I have to use the 990. But I did NOT want to leave this pair of shoes. So far I am so very happy with the 990s. Alec in Atlanta"

    Bad Blisters

    MyNB Silver Member

MyNB members may earn NB points for writing product reviews

"I'm a big fan of the 1080 line, having purchased the last 4 models. Unfortunately, these fresh foams are poorly engineered. There is a stitching on the inside part of medial side of the shoe which is brutal if you're running anything past 4-5 miles. I've tried everything, from using Bandaids to blister cushions and it hasn't worked. This shoe is way too expensive for this kind of frustration. Didn't anyone at New Balance try these sneakers out before putting them on the shelves??? Very disappointed"

    Jul 24, 2016

The most recent 1080 pair i bought has given me blisters anytime i run past 4 miles or am on any kind of trail. For $150 this should not happen.

    - Boulder, CO

"I have ALWAYS worn a 10.5 with NB running shoes. But the Fresh foam 1080 does not fit like the previous models. The sock inside makes it extremely tight around mid section of the foot and the big toe box area allows my toes to slush around - i have a blister on each foot in the exact same spot where the sock area ends. I ?have run in these shoes around 10 times but finally have to give in and not run in them - can i exchange or do i need to go to the shop i purchased"

    Sock like

    - Bend OR

"The fit is great right out of the box. Very sock like. I also really liked that the toe box is wide enough for your foot to spread a little when running. My toes got jammed up in the Zante's."

Shoe is too narrow, to the point of pain

    - New York

"Have been through several pairs of 1062s, a 1063 and a 1089v4. All shoes were very comfortable and supportive. The new1080 was very painful in the arch area from the start and has not gotten any better. I removed the insole and this has helped some but the shoe still becomes fatiguing eventually. This shoe is the first in this series I have used that has not fit comfortably. My size has not changed during this time. Not sure why this was made so narrow."

    Sooooo comfortable

    - Apex, NC, USA

"I recently had both of my knees replaced and was looking for the perfect new shoes for a new walking/running program. These shoes totally fit the bill. The size was true and the comfort level is superb. I finished my first post surgery 5K with no problems. I actually talked my husband ( a long time runner) into trying a pair and he also loves them. Hopefully they will still be in production when I need a new pair. AMERICAN MADE !!!!!"

    Not the old 1080

    - Alexandria, VA

"I have gone through four previous pairs of 1080s over the last ten years: a pair of the originals, two v2s and one v4. They have all been spectacularly comfortable out of the box. Sadly, this new version is not. They start to chafe severely on the inside of both feet after after about a mile, and with about 20 miles on them so far, the chafing has not become any less bad. I got the same size as all my previous pairs, and have neither gained nor lost any weight since my last pair, so the fit of the new version really is different, and, for me, much worse."

    Poor Quality

    - Manchester NH

"When I first looked at these shoes, I could see the quality was poor. The left shoe was substantially wider that the right. After trying them on. to ensure I was not wrong, I put them back in the box and returned them. This is the first bad purchase I have made through New Balance. All other purchases have been 5 stars."

    Midsole Blunder

    - Norcross, GA

"I assume with any major change in a popular show, some folks won't be happy. Sorry NB, but count me as very displeased with your excellant N2 midsole getting replaced with "Fresh Foam". While the Foam may be a bit more durable, its noticeably stiffer and much less comfortable out of the box compared to your previous version. I walked around the house for a few days with a NEW V6 on one foot and a NEW V5 on the other. There is no comparison - so if you favor these shoes, buy the V5s while you can. I've sent back the V6s as you probably guessed by now."

A excellent work out shoe, light with great support.

    - long island

"a wonderful product, this shoe is wide , light, comfortable and with solid support for a good work out in the gym."

    Jan 11, 2016

    fits well. comfortable. stylish

    - Cleveland, OH, USA

"I am 68 and do not run. I do elliptical, bike and walking. I need a fairly wide toe box. I got the size 10 4 e and they fit perfectly. Very comfortable. No limits for me for above exercise as far as shoes are concerned. They also received approval from my very fashion oriented fashion consultant (daughter)."

    Jan 9, 2016

Nice shoe, but key design features need to be part of the product description

    - Philly

"Good shoe, but big differences from v5. This shoe is narrower and the mechanics vary. This shoe adapts during the run to be more forgiving. Sole is a nice change - doesn't pick up rocks, but you have to trust the transition mechanics. Major downsides include width - these are probably at least one size more narrow (length is ok). Biggest downside is the MAJOR seam on insole. Wear some lube or tape for a while - your first few runs will blister or slice where that seam is. Actually like the traditional laces better than the flat ones in the V6 - you may want to swap out."

    Jan 9, 2016

Lots of positives but need more mileage

    - Lancaster, PA

"Pros: Fresh Foam mid sole feels great, weight is great for a training shoe/not bad for racing, elasticity in laces is cool Cons: plastic saddle rubbed my arches on both feet on one run at about 6 mi in. Need more runs to figure out if this will continue."

    Jan 6, 2016

    Fresh Foam 1080

    - Gainesville, GA, USA

"This is by far the best New Balance running shoe available. The cushioning is noticeably better than last years model. Love the style and color as well. The only small problem I found is that I had to add small heel lifts under the insole to get the best foot positioning for me when running."

    Jan 6, 2016

    Just Awesome!!!

    - Miami, FL

"I cannot begin to say how comfortable these shoes are! I have worn these on several runs anywhere from 7-12 miles each and have felt no pain. I have owned several pairs of running shoes and these are by far the best I've used. New Balance is constantly being innovative and smart. I highly recommend these shoes to someone who wants an all around soft and very cushioned ride!"

    Jan 6, 2016

I have been wearing NB running shoes for 20 years.I am 61 yo and run 10 to 15 miles a week. These were the worst for heel support I have ever run in.

    - Greenville, SC, USA

"No heel support!! Like running on a flat board!! I have run on 1080's for the last 3 pairs, and these were like running on a flat shingle."

    Jan 5, 2016

This is UNLIKE ANY 1080 variant hitherto

    - Peachtree City, GA

"As stated - this shoe is unlike ANY other 1080 iteration ever! I have used them all and multiple shoes per 1080 iteration. Still think V2 was best for comfort, build quality and wear but all are the best shoe available on the market I have found for my VERY narrow feet, heavy weight (6/4" 175) and high mile runs (60+ miles/week). That stated, this is the most comfortable, best cushioning and fitting version to date - wanna read on???? Read to the end because there is a significant downside if it applies to your needs. First the upsides: 1. This is without a doubt the most comfortable 1080 shoe in terms of fit ever. They have managed to make the body of the shoe even more snug (in a positive manner) than before so fits like a sock more than a shoe yet dispensed with the accompanying narrow toe box (which I liked for reasons of psychological feel) that resulted in many a black ugly toe. 2. For those with extremely narrow feet, there is no more potato chipping over the instep! Perhaps due to more flexible material or better eyelet design but welcome!! 3. They have joined the tongue to the body so it is no longer required to have the laces interact with the tongue over the most sensitive part of the instep - had only seen this in trail shoes previously and wondered why nobody did for road guys. Who wants a tongue floating and bunching over long runs??? 4. FINALLY! New Balance has laces that don't require retying minimum once during runs (even if double knotted)! My God I love these laces, thin, comfortable not too stretchy and STAY tied! 5. The Fresh Foam will disappoint you with its cushioning the first run, only that it will feel about same as previous 1080 iterations. HOWEVER, from the second run on, the cushioning is demonstrably superior in every way. No more sore knees the day after a long 20 miler!! 6. While it may seem petty, the tread pattern of the Fresh Foam 1080 is vastly less susceptible to holding stones and as a result much quieter and more confidence inspiring. Surprising but true. 7. New Balance has been getting darker with each iteration of the show available since the 1080V3 (literally and stupidly white) so that the shoes don't looked trashed after a few runs - lame but it gets to you after a while to have filthy looking shoes. 8. The impression is these are going to hold their cushioning much longer than the previous iterations of 1080 since the V3 which turned to bricks at about 400-500 miles even if rotated daily with a second pair. 9. The eyes are much bigger, reinforced and the laces thinner so snugging to get a good fit is virtually guaranteed - a little thing that drove me crazy on all previous versions Now the downsides (which won't matter to many I presume): 1. All previous iterations of the 1080 had an unusual combination of outstanding cushioning with respectable bounce and could be used as marathon shoes for example (or other nonsprint eventing shoes if you will). The 1080 Fresh Foam has literally NO spring - NONE WHATSOEVER. It is as though your entire foot momentum is damped with every step. I choose the term damped carefully for it is akin to a proper premium suspension system tuned for a motorcycle or auto. The impact is FULLY absorbed without transmission to the body. NOTE: it does NOT mean it literally saps one's energy from a stride - it does NOT - it just doesn't let you use the strike to preload your next step. I suspect this isn't a factor for the intended market - large heavy neutral strikers putting in high miles and frankly if one focuses on the running efficiency it isn't an issue at all but this shoe will not allow one to get sloppy with their stride and cheat to conserve energy. This needs be noted - heck it may be a good thing in that it will train one towards higher efficiency and less injuries. This is not really a criticism but rather a characteristic 2. The tread pattern, while not a stone collector, can be slippery during wet days on road lane lines - by careful!!! 3. Although I have yet to run with this shoe in hot weather (highest so far here has been about 30C) and despite it being very form fitting, this shoe may be hot for those 40C+ days of summer based on holding it under light and comparing transmission versus previous 1080 iterations. There you have it I was predisposed to buy up every 1080 V5 12B I could find and if there ever are any at right price, may yet do so but only for price break of a discontinued shoe model. This new 1080 is a GREAT shoe for old fat men like me piling on high miles and doing little speed work (9ish minute/miles - 7-20++ miles). This shoe appears to be a Hoka (regarding cushioning) that won't blow out your knees nor cause a man to walk like a stripper after a run. Right now I can't think of a better shoe for my needs. Really hate that it is so good as probably will have to buy a couple at full price before new model appears and they have sales on this iteration. Happy running to you folk!"

If you like the fresh foam series........

    - St. Louis

"I love the 1080, great feel and treadmills are easy with the 1080. Now you have added a fresh foam bottom and it's even better !!!!! Try it, you like it is a cereal commercial I grew up with. Trust me, try these shoes and you will like. You will love the feel and look of these very fashion forward shoes."
