Introducing Fresh Foam
Can a running shoe be both plush and high-performance? The Fresh Foam 980 is a neutral cushioning shoe, unlike anything you've ever stepped into before. It's a new technology that combines a more natural drop with a plush ride. Intelligent design just got smarter.
Explore the science of soft
Training is hard, but Fresh Foam is soft—unabashedly so. Watch ESPN’s Kenny Mayne get together with Team NB’s Jenny Simpson and Dustin Pedroia for a day of off-season training. Hilarity ensues when they switch sports and step into new shoes.
We surprised runners across the country and collected feedback. Their responses were equally as surprising.

"This is the worst running shoe I have ever used. Not flexible and very poor on the cushioning scale. Don't waste money on this shoe. Your more than likely to develop an injury with this shoe. My lower legs always were a little sore after running in them. I gave this shoe more time than I should have hoping it would break in a little. It just does not fit the NB standard."

Yes, I recommend this product.
"Out of the box I ran a 10k then the three day Ragner relay. No blisters and the best times that I have ever ran. Great shoes if your not a heavy guy, comfortable and light. Just bought a second pair for the shelf why the first pair wear out! Great shoes and I honeslty thought they would fall apart quickly."

"long time NB user. i feel like i've tried every Cushioned shoe made in a 10 2E. was excited when i saw the fresh-foams 'cause i can't fit the Hokas. no clue what NB did with the fit on these. a 10 2E was no where near right. i understand the lower instep could make the width seem narrower but even the length was off. very odd. so, i never got to try them. bummer. size appropriate or temper your expectations. "Not only did I do most of my cross fit training in this shoe I also ran the spartan and cmc in the same pair! They functioned well, held up to nonstop abuse and are extremely comfortable. I am now onto my second pair as the first pair earned their retirement. My single complant is that they are not Made In The USA."

"I have bought New Balance shoes for years and am disappointed that the 4E -- which was plenty wide in other running shoe styles from NB -- is not wide enough in this style. While this shoe looks really good, it's not great for comfort. I use orthotics and have always been comfortable in other NB shoes. After wearing these shoes on an elliptical trainer four times a week for an hour, I have begun to feel a pain in the bottom of my foot and may just trash them. I would return them if it was within 30 days of the purchase."
