I recommend the newer version of the 840v3 though heel area is bigger than I like.

"When the 840 disappeared for a while I was very disappointed because these shoes worked well for my feet. I love walking but I have some age-related foot issues. I could walk long distances without any pain. These shoes work well with or without orthotics. So I was delighted to learn that New Balance came out with a newer version. They run a tad bigger than the earlier version. I measured my old 840 version to the newer ones and the newer ones definitely run larger. There is more room than I like in the heel area but I'm hoping that tying them snugly will do the trick and wearing thicker athletic socks. I would still recommend these shoes as they are a stable walking shoes and finally New Balance is making shoes like these in great colors. They look great!"

"I wear these shoes to work in the hospital. After 12 hours of walking back and forth down the hallways my feet didn't hurt. They are also wide enough to accommodate my toes."

"Bought this update since my old pair needed to be retired. This version seems cheaper than previous version. Also, annoyed that shoe Lasts are now longer published on the site so I can find a new shoe with a similar Last."
