"These are supposed to be bunion friendly but they are not. They tightly squeeze my bunion uncomfortably and painfully."

"I wear New Balance shoes exclusively for handball and typically purchase a basketball shoe but was not impressed with the NB basketball selections. I opted to purchase the 857 cross trainer and loved the shoe from my first game. They fit great and are extremely comfortable. I plan on purchasing two additional pairs as backup."

Not the quality I have come to expect

    - Alexandria, VA

"I have been a NB customer for more than a decade. I have worn only their shoes for a long time. Usually buying two pairs at a time and rotating each day between the two. This pair came in much more narrow then I am used to from NB. They seemed to slip alot more than the last pair I had ordered but I was able to just tie them tighter to make up for it. In the process of tying things tighter, the eyelets have ripped out in the middle of the shoe on three of the four shoes that I have. This is probably my last pair of NB. One wonderful positive I have about NB, is the customer service. They have worked hard to get the shoes to fit - I have just become less happy with the end results this time around."

857s immediately put to the test

    - Austin TX area

"first off, I wear 14EEEE so I have been using NB shoes for years since it's so easy to order and know they will fit like all the others. I found a pair of 855s (very similar to the new 857) still in the box buried in the back of my closest, wore for about a month to get broken in before they failed (dry rot I suspect?) right before a big trip. I jumped on the NB website and ordered a new pair of 857 as replacements. They arrived only a couple of days before my trip, so not much break in time before heading out. I use these type of shoes as my go to outside work shoes, construction, yard, etc., so they are put thru the paces. I wore these every day for 7 days, logging 12,000 to 17,000 steps each day and by each day's end, my feet were very tired. By the end of the week, these were getting more pliable and flexible to where by the end of the day my feet were feeling much better than previously. I have been wearing this or similar model NB for likely 10-15 years and they are very stable and wear like iron for the soles and uppers (other than the failed pair mentioned above). What I have found to typically wear out after 4-6 years is the liners of the heal from taking on and off. With my foot size/width, I have a very hard time finding boots, so I use these all leather tennis shoes (sneakers) for about 95% of all my outdoor and work related activities. Quality products at reasonable prices, ordering on line and shipping makes things even simpler and I know the consistency of the fit."

"I've purchased several pairs of this model and the fit was excellent! this last pair; the right foot is somewhat narrow at the toe and my big toe 'hits' the side/end of the shoe"

    Great fit for wide feet

    - Detroit, MI

"One of the few shoes for extra wide feet - style and comfort!"

    Love the Roll Bar

    - Suffolk County, Long Island, NY

"I have been buying New Balance Sneakers before New Balance was a popular brand. For over 20+ years I have bought the 850 series sneaker. My feet are of the "Large Size" 16 4E and it is VERY difficult to find sneakers in my Size. New Balance seem to be the only brand that carries the larger size sneakers that meet the styles of today. I am extremely pleased with your brand and have always recommended you sneakers to my friends."

Not as comfortable as I'd hoped (across top).

"Good-looking shoe, had this type NB before. Older I get, more I hope for cushy shoes. Close but not quite. After months still haven't loosened up across the top. Nice shoes."

The roller bar cuts into the arch of the foot. I had already worn the shows before i realize how much it hurt

    - San Francisco, CA

"The worst comfort shoe ever, there is something in the base of the show that puts pressure on the arches, worst shoe ever put on my feet and I am stuck with them...have not worn them after the first week....."

    Jun 14, 2016

I recommend this shoe in B width for people with a C width foot.

    - Niceville

"This is the widest B width NB I've ever bought. However, I made it work. I took the thin, flat, mostly useless insert from my NB 1569s and added the insert that came with my NB 928s. I wear orthotics prescribed by my doctor in my NB 928s as an every day shoe."

Can't seem to break these in

    - Los Anglese

"I have always loved NB, but these thing kill my feet. For some reason, they just feel like they will never break in. If I had kept the box, I would see about returning them for something else!"

New Balance - my "go to" footwear!

    - Cleveland, Ohio

"The 857 seems to run a bit large for the size. I wear men's 4-E to accommodate my bunions, and have 6-7 pair for gym, walking, and outside yard work. I always get mens size 9 4-E. The shoe is comfortable, but a bit longer than my other NB size 9s."

Shoe was heavier and less flexible than I had expected.

Great value for a hard-to-find item

    - Washington, DC, USA

"The size 13B is very hard to get. Luckily NB makes one that looks good and feels good and lasts a long time."

    Mar 27, 2016

    Very good experience

    - Buffalo, NY, USA

"Sneakers are well made. The item on the website is exactly what was shipped to me. I have been a New Balance customer for over 5 years, this was my first time purchasing on the website. The website was easy to use and check out. Sneakers arrived with no issues and are comfortable."

It's all about the arch width

    - Raleigh, NC, USA

"My podiatrist insisted that I wear a sneaker that has a wide surface that contacts the ground near the arch of my foot for stability purposes. This shoe is the only one that I can find that has that. The trend these days is to have the high/almost nonexistent middle part of a sole to make it look futuristic or the like. This doesn't have that look. It is very comfortable after I put my custom insoles in them. The price is way too high. The reason I bought this through New Balance was for a replacement of the same shoe I had bought 7 months earlier where the sole had already separated from the bottom. Not good."

    Good for my feet

    - Philly pa

"Been buying these sneakers for 5 years. Love the support. I would keep buying them. I had double foot surgery 5 years ago. They keep my feet happy"

    Feb 12, 2016

    fits great

    - upstate new york

"so far so good, you have some gegative comments and i was not sure i really wanted to buy, i hope you read your feedback and try to fix problems as they happen, i bought these after consumer reports rated you best around 1990 and bought 1 every year until 3 years ago when you got some awful reviews but i must admit they fit me great"

    Wonderful fit and comfort

    - Mt. Airy, GA

"I bought a pair of this model not too long ago, and they are still in great shape. Since I have a very difficult foot to fit (13 B) and these were so satisfactory, I bought another pair. I wear them alternately so as to preserve them."

    Jan 27, 2016

    Good shoe, poor glue

    - Illinois

"Poor glue on the soles has caused my last three pairs to have separation. If New Balance had not given me a discount on my recent purchase, I would have not bought again."
