"I ordered FOUR pairs of these shoes and every one had problems with at least one of the soles. The forefoot sole and the heel sole were not on the same plane. Your foot would twist, usually quite noticeably, when your forefoot hit the ground as it twisted to be on the same plane as the heel. Sometimes it was the left shoe, sometimes the right shoe. The shoes would rock diagonally when on a flat surface. In addition the shoes are noticeably narrower than my old B-width 857s. They are no longer comfortable to wear. After being a New Balance customer for close to 20 years I will be starting to find another brand that views quality as something that is of importance."

Yes, I recommend this product.
"I'm probably the number one individual buyer of this shoe line since I replace my shoes every couple months and put 2 in rotation. This has been my daily shoe and my gym shoe since the 851. The 857 is the next best version since the 853. Ah, the good ol days. The model numbers in between were not as good. This is a solid, stable, well-built shoe and of course priced to match. It's not a fluffy, neon, lightweight trainer. It has excellent lateral support at the forefoot and the bottom is stiff enough that my toes never bend back - good for turf toe. This 857 is the real deal, and I'll buy a few extra pairs before the 858 comes out just in case that one isn't. *** I'm age 50, 6' 4" 230lbs, wear a size 13 4E, and have a bit of a messed up left foot, broken a few times long ago. I just started wearing corrective insoles, and this shoe has plenty of volume to fit them. *** I replace these so often because I'm pretty hard on my shoes, due to scuffing my heel under my load when I walk. Usually only the sole has worn when I replace them. The uppers are good, maybe a bit ratty, but the stitching is intact. *** It is the only shoe that I wear unless I'm hiking or unless my wife refuses to go out with me because I am wearing white sneakers with jeans. So, I just wish it came in a few more colors besides white and black so I can go on another date. *** I have bought over 20 pairs of other New Balance [colored] shoes over the years, but after a few dates, they all went to Goodwill because the fit wasn't right. I also found that quality was a mixed bag, and it didn't necessarily follow the price point. Some New Balance shoes are awesome, some not-so-awesome. I think this is probably due to American manufacturing. It is simply not on par with Asia for most products. I'm sure that will make me some more friends."

"I have owned close to 15 pairs of the previous models of this shoe and this one is terrible. The "leather" has torn in 2 places down the insides of my shoes and I did not scuff them or scrap them the cheap "leather" just ripped. A family member bought the women's version of this shoe and hers did the same thing. For the price I paid and the previous legacy I expected much better from this shoe."

"You used to make a great sneaker ! What has changed ? I have a pair of 857's and am SO disappointed in them. They make noise when I walk. Like I have something stuck to the bottom of my shoes ! Not good when you walk down the hall where you work and everyone looks at you like "get that gunk off the bottom of your sneaks" ... and your sneakers are "squeaky" clean. I have worn New Balance for YEARS. Now, when I wear these sneakers ... I have heel pain in my right foot and my left leg feels like it has a shin splint. I change to a pair of clogs ... and all the pain goes away ! Suggestion ... don't buy these."

"The shoe was initially fine. I did not encounter the squeaking others mentioned but after less than 3 months of wear, the sole began separating from the upper at the toes of both shoes. This allows dirt and crud to get in there and get carried indoors with you. I also had a real problem with mold in the shoe that I have never had before."
