"Very disappointed in this 857 replacement for the stellar 856 which was a rock in the New Balance line for years. The 857 is made much narrower and smaller with a standard shoe "last" instead of the much roomier "SL-2" last in the 856. Also, the 857 quality is inferior and started tearing apart after only 6 weeks. My suggestion is a factory recall and bring the 856 back into production."

"Not the same fit as the 856. This one runs narrow from the arch to the toe bed…..and a bit short, especially on the right foot! Causes discomfort from toes through lower back after use."

Yes, I recommend this product.
"A little pricey and not the most stylish. BUT--great comfort and support. I have arthritis in my hip and wear orthopedic inserts. This sneaker keeps my alignment straighter than other sneakers I have tried. I play tennis, walk, and play golf and these shoes support all my activities. PLUS, at my local NB Store, they give me a 10% discount because my podiatrist recommends them."

"I have been purchasing the 856 and was looking forward to the new shoe....however I do not like the 857. It runs tight up where you lace the sneaker up.the quality of the leather is not the same. At the end of the day my feet hurt. I would not buy these shoes again. Fortunately for me I found a pair if 856's on line in a new balance discount store, so I switch every other day to try and break in the 857's....never had to do that before with a pair of new balance..very disappointed."
