"I have found myself spending more and more time off the pavement and on the trails or in the woods. The 860s are my favorite sneaker but I wanted to check out the Leadville Trail to see if they would be more suited to my surroundings. My standard size in the 860 is 7.5 D. The local store only had the 7.5 in a B so I tried that as a reference. The fit was ok (not ideal but not awful) but the heel slippage was significant. The salesperson suggested I go down a size and keep my standard width. The 7D did the trick. There is some heel slippage but it's barely noticeable and certainly not a deal breaker. As jilly421 mentioned in her review, the extra lace hole would be a most welcome addition to solve this issue. I took my first walk with the Leadville Trail this afternoon and I love them. They're definitely not a springy and cushioned as the 860s but they shouldn't be, either. That said, they certainly don't feel like a hiking boot. You still feel like you're wearing a sneaker. I'm very impressed by how light they feel and how stable I feel wearing them. I don't think I'll abandon the 860s entirely in favor of the Leadville but I see myself wearing these quite often. I can certainly say I won't limit myself to one or two pairs, either. This is definitely the type of sneaker you hoard."

"Overall, I really like these! I have used them for hiking, trail running, and even a 14 mile hiking. They were comfortable and had excellent traction throughout. One con: my heels slip a little more than I would like and these shoes don't have the extra lace hole that can help prevent that."

    Comfortable and springy!

    - Walla Walla

"I've been using NB 2E walking shoes for 20 years but wanted a longer lasting heel for my supination. The Leadvile has a Vibram sole and is super comfortable in D width. IT snugs down nice without cutting off my circulation. The shoe is nicely cushioned so I haven't even added my NB insert. I liked the pair I bought so well I ordered 5 more pair so I don't have to worry about the shoe being discontinued for quite awhile!"

    Buying my 2nd pair now

    - Denver,CO

"I normally wear a 7 but have my first pair in the pink in 7.5 due to my walking in these 13+ hours/day. I purchased these after a n extremely long search after a left Achilles rupture/surgical repair. These are comfortable and provide enough cushion for me while I'm working/ walking on hard surfaces at the hospital. I am buying a second pair today in 7 wide gray so I can have a pair for home and keep the other at the hospital. I have yet to run since the injury but don't see an issue once my leg is stronger."

This product is just for trail running (like the description says it is.)

    - San Francisco

"Bought this product thinking that it could offer me more ankle stability then a regular running shoe. I run on and off trails most weeks, figured after years of using new balance shoes that this shoe would work on the road as well. I'm a marathon runner, never ran for speed in my life. Little did I know, this shoe actually hurts to use on the road. Never experienced so much pain in my life from a shoe. The padding is excellent (no blisters or unwanted rubbing, but they did something to the bottom of my feet that actually made them throb. Also, I've always ordered size 6.5 for years. I compared them to my other new balance shoes and these are much bigger. After I had problems with them found a review online that says you shoudln't run on the road in these shoes for more than a mile. I guess I'm naive, but if a shoe is built to run 100 miles up the rocky mountains you'd think it could run a few miles on the road around San Francisco."
