"This will be my second review of this product since I bought two pairs of this spike. I have not seen my previous review published, so I will attempt once more to let folks know what is wrong with these shoes. The first pair I bought, we could not screw in 3 of the 4 spikes. They just would not screw in. We tried the ones that came with the shoes and we tried other ones and none worked. We called customer service and they sent us a new pair in exchange for the defective ones. The new pair was better, we could screw in 2 of the 4 spikes and ultimately forced a third one in. New Balance needs to either test all their spikes to make sure the actual spikes can be screwed in or redesign the spike plate and holes manufacturing process because something is not right. The fit and utility of the rest of the shoe are great, but if you can't put spikes in cross country racing spikes, it kind of defeats the reason for having them."

Spikes that cannot have spikes screwed into them are useless

"I ordered a pair of these spikes for my daughter, a collegiate cross country runner with almost a decade of experience in the sport. These were the worst pair of spikes she ever had and the worst I had seen in my more than 30 year association with the sports of cross country and track. The spikes provided and any others we tried could not be screwed into at least two of the spike holes. Since there are only 4 on each shoe, this is a significant problem. So, I called New Balance, complained, and they agreed to take back the defective shoes and send new ones. They were extremely helpful and professional in taking care of this issue. The new shoes arrived and we had problems with one hole and could not screw a spike fully into another hole and could not get it to come back out either. Two pairs of shoes, both sets defective. Either New Balance needs to fix this issue or makes sure any pair of spike shoes they ship are pretested in each hole so they can actually take spikes. There is no utility to producing a spike shoe that cannot reliably take spikes. I hope the company will take these back and stop making spikes that do not work."
