I have participated in the Chicago Marathon every year for the last six years. My first Marathon was in 2002 and run with the "New balance 2000" model and I thought back then that it was the shoe that enabled me to finished the race. In 2007 when the weather situation was deadly during the Chicago Marathon, I still thought that it was my New Balance shoe that enabled me to finish the race. This New Balance 498 version is the best yet for me and I refused to try any other brand....Why fix it, if it ain't broke. Keep up the good work.

I run on asphalt. I also walk on concrete a lot. This is the first shoe i have ever owned that felt like clouds on my feet. This is not just a running shoe but an every day shoe when you have foot problems. I bought a 2nd pair just for every day use. My foot doctor hates you.

I'm a big guy with very wide feet. This shoe is my favorite for runnning around on weekends and after work. It is comfortable right out of the box and is affordable too. When I was younger, I ran track and field and wore the high-end New Balance shoes, it's nice to see that the quality carries on through-out the entire line. Great shoe, great price -- I think I'll have to go buy another pair soon.

I am on my 4th or 5th pair of 498's, I've lost count. I don't run but my feet are narrow and have been hard to fit my whole life. I am 63 and these shoes (which come in a B width!) are near perfect for me in comfort and fit. I don't run but wear them all day and walk about 2 miles each day. I live in Phoenix and they are also the coolest shoes I have ever owned (literally). Everytime I log in to buy the next pair I expect they will no longer be available (being the optimist that I am). So far so good.

Very comfortable. Plenty of cushioning for the heavy runner.
