Longest running sponsor maintains year-long program and expected $1 million donation
Boston, MA -
New Balance announced today that they will continue their long-term commitment to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® with an expected $1 million donation from sales of the New Balance 2008 Lace Up for the Cure® collection.
The 2008 fall New Balance Lace Up for the Cure® footwear, apparel and accessories collection includes 3 models of women's athletic shoes from the running, walking and active lifestyle categories. Each shoe features a pink ribbon " the universal symbol of breast cancer awareness " and for the first time, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® logo. The collection is also distinguished by pink ribbon tissue paper in each shoebox and a hang-tag that explains the symbol's significance and the company's 19-year relationship with Komen for the Cure®. Highlights from the fall 2008 footwear collection include the WW845WB, a fitness walking shoe that provides stability and comfort, and the WR768KM, a performance running shoe designed to provide a stable, cushioned ride. The 768 is the official shoe of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2008. The 845 is the official shoe of the Breast Cancer 3-Day®.
For 2008, the fall Lace Up for the Cure® collection will also include performance apparel and accessories. The apparel component will feature 24 pieces, including jackets, performance tees, sports bras and workout pants. New additions to the 2008 collection include the Pross_File Crop, an adjustable sports bra for high impact activities designed to accommodate prosthesis, and the Bamboo Long Sleeve, a feminine top composed of bamboo fibers, a sustainable fabrication that wicks moisture, resists odor and repels UV rays. 2008 Lace Up for the Cure® accessories include workout bags, performance socks, sunglasses, pink shoelaces and a new VIA Step pedometer which tracks steps, distance and calories while training or on race day. Similar to the footwear, each accessory and piece of apparel in the collection is distinguished by a pink ribbon.
In 2008, New Balance will maintain its commitment to Komen for the Cure® by donating up to $1 million (with a guaranteed minimum donation of $500,000). The Lace Up for the Cure® retail promotion runs throughout the year with a special focus during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
New Balance will also debut new advertising that highlights the Lace Up for the Cure® collection and New Balance's dedication to Komen for the Cure® through the company's new brand messaging (LOVE/hate. this is the new balance). The new brand campaign showcases an athlete's struggle and complex relationship with running and New Balance's ability to increase the love of running through product innovation. The new advertising will be displayed in-store and at Breast Cancer 3-Day® and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® events in 2008.
