Husson Athletics Signs Agreement with New Balance

September 10th 2010

New England Based Company to Supply All Athletic Clothing and Shoes

Bangor, ME -

Bob Reasso, Director of Athletics at Husson University in Bangor, Maine has announced the signing of a multiyear agreement with Boston-based New Balance to outfit all fourteen of Husson's varsity sports for clothing and footwear. The Athletic Department will also partner with Wight's Sporting Goods for the retail portion of the agreement.

"Our athletic department is extremely pleased to announce that we have just signed a multiyear apparel deal with New Balance," said Reasso. "We are also delighted that Wight's Sporting Goods will be our partner in this venture. We are looking forward to this being a long and prosperous relationship for Husson Athletics, New Balance, and Wight's Sporting Goods which will greatly benefit our student-athletes."

Effective September 1, this multi-year deal gives Husson University an ongoing relationship with New Balance that will unify footwear and apparel for the Athletic Department's fourteen varsity sports. According to A.D. Reasso, Husson's contract with New Balance constitutes one of the best Division III deals in the country.

New Balance is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and maintains three factories in Maine, Norridgewock, Skowhegan and Norway. "We had offers from other companies but we felt that the quality of the New Balance product, the service, and the fact that they manufacture a portion of their footwear in the state of Maine, made this decision very easy for us," said Reasso.

"As a company that currently employs more than 800 associates in Maine, New Balance has deep roots in the state and is thrilled to partner with Husson University to provide high performance footwear and apparel to their athletes," says Mark Cavanaugh, general manager of team sports for New Balance. "We look forward to watching Husson's athletes compete in New Balance gear in one of our home states."

As a partner in this agreement, Andy Nickerson, the owner of Wight's Sporting Goods stated "we at Wight's Sporting Goods are excited to partner with New Balance and Husson University in enhancing the professional image of not only the athletic department but the entire school. We were pleased when Husson decided to keep the business relationship in state and local with both Wight's and New Balance having ties to the State of Maine. We believe Husson is creating a positive environment for their student-athletes and we are proud to be a part of that successful formula," continued Nickerson.

New Balance, headquartered in Boston, MA has the following mission: Demonstrating responsible leadership, we build global brands that athletes are proud to wear, associates are proud to create and communities are proud to host.
