I currently have 993's.Before that 992's and before that 991's.I'm not sure how far back in time i have had these shoes. I buy them for comfort. I have flat wide feet. I usually buy a new pair when i go on a trip. I have so many pairs of shoes in the garage and in my closet. I have thrown away many pairs from embarrassment. visitors ask why i have so many shoes that are exactly the same. I tell them they should buy a pair and they will see how light and comfortable they really are. I'm sure i will be buying more 993's in the future. For my final trip in life i would like a new pair of 993's to wear for eternity.

Like the most recent poster, I've used NB 99n series for running exclusively for a long time (17+ years). I'm 58, male, 6'2" 165lbs, run 20-30 miles a week (longer when training). I didn't like the 992 (went through two pairs before giving up)and bought 991s off of ebay and other sites until recently when supply dried up. At first I thought 993 corrected all problems introduced with 992. But comfortable though they are, I also am developing knee problems and some shin pain that I didn't have before. I've not run for a week twice now trying to get recovered, but a single 4 mile run brings back pain. I would love recommendations of any shoe as good as the 991 for providing cushioning and support. I strike hard on outside heel and roll in when completing stride. This is the kind of thing that should be resolved at running store, but in the city I live in I have not found a single store with anyone who can analyze running style and provide expert advice, including New Balance store. During initial problems with 992, I was convinced to try Asics TN536 and didn't like them at all. I should mention also that I replace shoes every 4-5 months.
Shin pain is a huge indicator of the need for a new running shoe. The shock you are generating is simply not being absorbed and instead is traveling straight up your legs. You might need a more substantial shoe, such as our 1011, or you might need a shoe offering more motion control, such as our 769. We can talk.

These are the worst running sneakers I have ever purchased. The first pair fell apart and started making strange popping noses within the first month. Exchanged them for another, different color. Ever since I have been wearing these my back has been killing me and my feet hurt when I run. I am very dissaponted with New Balance. I will have to go back to NIKE. Plus they were terribly expensive. I don't mind paying for quality, but there was non to be found with these shoes
Wow, we are sorry to hear of the trouble. Can you please provide us with more details regarding the popping sound? Do you mean that the sound was coming from the midsole of the shoe itself? We are glad you were able to exchange but this is certainly a strange report. Was the 993 comfortable in the store but became uncomfortable when you started running? What led you to the 993 as the most likely New Balance model to suit your needs? We are also curious to learn about what you liked with your Nike shoes. Our styles should always compare favorably so let's chat and help you find the perfect New Balance model for your particular feet.

I have owned several pair of the 99 series and have been happy with all of them. They have had great durability and comfort until these. I hate these shoes. The midsoles seems softer and has compressed with use. The outsole is no longer a single piece of rubber and mine have come apart. If you look at the bottom you'll see that there are separate pieces glued to the midsole. This is a major weak point. The single square that is not attached to any other piece is coming off on both my shoes. If NB goes back to the same quality construction of the 992 (or preferably the 991) then I will buy these shoes until for the rest of my life. If they continue with this incarnation I will never buy another pair. I only gave two stars because they fit well and OK for walking around but for anything more serious, forget it.
Your 993 should be perfect for any distance you can give it - from a 2 mile jog to a marathon. We were surprised that your outsole has come apart. We use blown rubber on the bottom of our running shoes (just as we always have incidentally), and we use it because it's extremely soft and provides a nice crash pad. But it shouldn't come off. Are you just walking and running in the shoes? Sometimes we see a problem if a customer purchases a running shoe for cross-training or other side-to-side activities. Let's chat more about this and identify the cause.
