WR1123

For a medium to heavy build, with flat arches and severe pronation, this shoe ROCKS! BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A BREAK IN PERIOD. And, yes, the arch feels much firmer than other shoes (so start out wearing them only an hour or too, and build up as your feet adjust). I think if everyone did this, they would love these shoes. I have worn the NB 767 (in all its variations) for several years, mostly happily, but still with some foot issues. Never wore the NB 1122, so can't comment on any changes in this version. I have extreme foot problems due to flattened arches, bunions, extreme pronation and plantar fasciatis, and do wear orthotics. I was a runner for years, but now mostly walk due to these issues. I decided to switch to the 1123 after trying it on in a NB store. Purchased size 8D, which is exactly the size I always get in NB shoes, and it feels true. It did take about 2 weeks to "break in." That is, my feet had to adjust to--what feels like to me--a higher, more firm, arch in the 1123. During this time, I did have some foot cramps, pains etc. I, too, feared I would have to take them back. So glad I didn't because I have to say, after that period of adjustment, now I LOVE these shoes! I agree that all the cushioning/springiness of the heels, plus the higher arch, could make a few people feel a bit out of control, as one reviewer mentioned, plus they do feel like they have a larger footprint (not sure if they really do, but that would not be uncommon for a stability shoe). I feel very stable in these shoes, and I know the mechanics of my feet have changed for the better as I no longer have heel, fascia or bunion pain. My bunions are clearly related to my severe pronation, which, in turn, is affected by my flattend arches. This shoe seems to address all those issues better than any shoe I've ever worn. And I've worn a zillion overpronator/stability type shoes....!

After having ankle tendon surgery, my orthopedic surgeon explained that the xrays showed that I had arthritis throughout my feet (along with the rest of my body!) and that I would need bunion and toe surgery on both feet in the near future. He told me to throw away all of my shoes and when my physical therapy was far enough along to go to the New Balance store, to take my newly made orthotics with me, to ask the store manager for assistance, and--finally, to spare no expense in getting the most comfortable shoe in the store. My first reaction to the 1123 shoe was: "How ugly and how boxy!" I put them on, I walked around and around the store, I looked at the pile of other shoes that the store manager had waiting for me to try on and I said: "It won't be necessary for me to try on any other shoes. I've NEVER had on a pair of shoes this comfortable before. Sold!!!" I've worn these shoes every day, all day, for four months. I'm ready to look for a new pair, in a new color, and I am terrified that there is NOT another shoe that even comes close to the comfort of this one!

I tend to overpronate so this shoe worked for me. Plenty of toe room. Purchased a wide and was satisfied with width. Comfortable from day one though I did purchase different New Balance inserts. Would love different colors in this style.

I ordered this shoe and it arrived the next day. What great service! I always buy shoes with the SL-2 last and I've yet to be disappointed. Put on the shoes and felt like I'd had them forever. So comfortable, needed no break-in period. Love the purple accents and the style of the shoe overall. My foot feels extremely stable and that's important when you're in your 60s and still running.

I realize a few people like these shoes, but if you wore the original 1122 you would be disappointed. I do a very slow run because of my knees but these do not have the great shock absorbency of the 1122. Sometimes a company changes are not for the better. Please bring back the 1122 for those of us that enjoyed the stability of that shoe.
