I am using this shoe as my daily walking shoe, I have severe over pronation due to flat and misaligned feet; the high tops supportd my ankle and allow me to walk comfortably without my custom orthotics. The shoe is warm on the feet and I look forward to taking them to Alaska.

These boots were only a few months old and lightly worn when the outer sole came off the left boot. No one has allowed a refund or been concerned at New Balance. There a big gob of dried glue between the outer and inner sole that seems to have caused this. It's an expensive defect that should be corrected with a full replacement, but even writing to the CEO of New Balance got no response. The other problem is these boots run a half size too short, and read more

Good shoe for hiking for problem feet

I'm having problems with my feet and need wide shoes. The 2x wide women's hiking boots were a great fit—I still had to replace the insole and cut the side to make room for my pinky toe but that did the job. I just finished about 30 miles of hiking in Ireland and coildn't have done it without these shoes.. The shoes feel stabilizing and comfortable. (I alternated days with these shoes and my Salomon hiking shoes which are also excellent).

These 1400v1 hiking boots are very light weight. The boot covers and supports the ankle when traversing over rocks and tree roots. So far they have held up very well for their use.

These were fine until I wore them on a rainy day. I slipped and fell twice, resulting in unpleasant injuries. The soles gave NO traction on slippery rocks. These shoes ruined my "trip of a lifetime". I will still wear them for everyday walks, but never on trail hikes. I bought a half size above normal size and fit is okay with mid-weight sock, too tight with hiking socks. These replaced an older version that was much better in every way.

Love the fit and feel of the 1400 trail boot. It has the inner comfort of the 990 and the ruggedness of a true hiking boot. I purchased the black version and so far nicks and scrapes are barely visible. The boot protects my ankle from unintended missteps over rocks and tree roots. Great waterproof exterior. Can't wait to really use them in the winter with the Thinsulate.

I LOVED the previous style of this boot, the NB 977 GT, so I wanted to enjoy these as well. I had always been able to comfortably fit the 8 2E w/ Spenco arch supports, but this new style is too narrow in the toe box depth. & the top is too high, it rubs my tendon & makes my ankle joint hurt. The lower style doesn't hold my ankle enough. I bought 4 pairs of the old boots, so NB messed up with the redesign. The new sole doesn't have as much grip on trails either. VERY disappointed!

Overall the product looks nice, but does not feel as durable as the previous ones. It actually rubbed my heel. Overall it sure looks pretty that still gives you that protection you need to walk.

Coming apart in less than 6 months!

I am reviewing the dark brown waterproof women's trailwalker boot, ww1400v1. This boot is coming apart after less than 6 months of casual day walking. there is a big gob of dried glue on the bottom of the upper boot that made a deep impression on the inside of the sole, it must have been the cause of the boot separating. Cust service at the new balance factory will not replace it, even though it is obviously a defect and I offered to return it. But, they will read more

Beware of roll bar

This hiking boot is extremely uncomfortable, even painful if worn for very long. The roll bar for stabilizing doesn't allow your foot to move naturally, and is very stiff. When I wore the boots for hours, I ended up with plantar fasciitis(and in a lot of pain) because of the artificial, stiff nature of the boot. My recommendation is that New Balance discontinue the manufacturing of any shoes/boots with roll bar technology. I will never buy another product that has this "feature".
