AMERICAN-MADE

THAT’S OUR STORY

This is our commitment—not a passing fad. More than 75 years ago, we made our first shoes in the U.S., and we’ve never left. Throughout, American Makers have always been at the forefront. Let’s celebrate them and their craft.

* In 2013, 1 out of every 4 pairs of shoes we sold in the USA was made or assembled here. Where the domestic value is at least 70%, we label our shoes "Made in the USA."

Tongue Foam

Tongue Foam

Rogers Foam, Somerville MA, Employees: 510

A luxurious touch, the tongue foam adds cushy comfort—and comes from a family owned shop that's close to home.

Born in Boston

The trek starts in Somerville, MA right outside of our headquarters in Boston. We work with Rogers Foam to create the tongue of the 990, making it as cushiony and comfortable as possible. It's the perfect soft touch on this premium shoe.

For over 60 years, this family-owned company has continued to add new offerings to meet the growing demand for new foam applications. They're always expanding their capabilities, helping us find new ways to use foam to put a bounce in your step.

Light Gray Suede

Tasman Leather, Hartland, ME, Employees: 140

Every fashion icon has its signature style. The 990 gets it trademark look from sumptuous suede, processed in Somerset County in northern Maine.

Maine Made

In the search for plush suede, we leave Massachusetts and make the trip to Maine. Our supplier there, Tasman Leather, specializes in producing premium leather for the United States Military, but they switch gears when they work with us. Rather than tan leather, they process the suede that contributes to the 990's iconic look.

Tasman was founded in 1947, and produces more than 160,000 hides each week. They have offices across the country, but it's their Maine outpost that gives the 990 its pedigree and personality.

Laces

Sole Choice, Portsmouth, OH, Employees: 41

Both functional and fresh, the 990's premium laces hail from a local Ohio supplier that's been honing their craft for over 100 years.

Tying It All Together

Goodbye New England, hello Midwest. We now head to the heart of the country, making our way to Ohio to meet up with Sole Choice, our laces manufacturer. These shoelaces have an American legacy—the company has been serving the shoe and foot care industries since 1902.

Vamp Lining

Guilford Textiles & Dela, Pine Grove, PA & Haverhill, MA, Employees: 300 & 42

Much like a sock, the vamp lining—made in both Pennsylvania and Massachusetts—enhances comfort and durability.

Silver Lining

We're on the home stretch now. Creating the lining takes two pit stops: the first is in Pine Grove, PA at Guilford Textiles. To create a breathable mesh for the inside of the 990, Guilford's textile engineers use their expertise in fibers, construction and finishing to develop a custom solution.

Dela—located close to Boston in Haverhill, MA—works in lockstep, finishing the process. They design high-quality, efficient and innovative laminating that protects the lining. Together, two teams work to ensure that the inside of the 990 is just as smooth as the suede on the outside.

Many American Makers. One 990.
